WAYNESVILLE, N.C. - Led by a top-25 finish from sophomore
Brycen Jones, the Georgia Southern men's golf team wrapped up play at the JT Poston Invitational on Tuesday. The three-day event was hosted by Western Carolina and was contested at the Waynesville Inn & Golf Club.
Parker Claxton led the way in the first round with a one-under 69. After bogeying three of the first four holes, the junior posted four birdies over the final 14 holes to finish on a strong note. On Monday, three Eagles led the way with even-par 70s. Freshman
Pierce Adamson used four birdies, Jones used five birdies and junior
Ian Glanton also used five birdies to help lead the way. Additionally, freshman
Thomas Horne posted the first eagle for an Eagle this year on the par-5 18th hole.
On Tuesday, Jones shot a one-over 71 thanks to a team-high five birdies to finish tied for 24th. Horned birdied two of his final four holes to shoot a 72. All six golfers representing Georgia Southern birdied the par-5 10th on the day.
Jones led the team with 12 birdies for the tournament while Adamson and Claxton both had nine. The Eagles averaged 4.75 on the par 5s, which was seventh best among the teams competing. Jones played the par 3s at an average of 3.06 for the week, tied for fifth in the tournament. His 12 birdies were eighth-best among the competitors.
