Statesboro, Ga. --- The Georgia Southern men's soccer team (3-0-1) plays host to the UAB Blazers (2-1-2) for a Sunday evening matchup at 7 PM on Bo Pitts Field.
Last time out for the Blazers, they traveled to Stetson where the match ended in a 1-1 draw. Humphrey Doh scored for the Blazers just 44 seconds into the match with goalkeeper Jonathan Munteanu making a career high six saves after facing 15 shots by the Hatters.
The Eagles last contest was a historic 4-1 win against North Florida in a match that was moved to Bo Pitts Field. Not only did freshman
Harvey Sarajian score his first career goal, but
Ryan Holmes added his name to the record books by becoming just the 2nd player in 25 years to score a hat trick. His efforts not only earned him Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week, but also the first national weekly award winner in program history.
2024 marks the best start in program history, having not lost a single match through four total games on the season. A win would make it four straight for Georgia Southern, marking the longest win streak since 2005. Georgia Southern's eight goals already in 2024 marks the most goals in a season since 2021, and it is only midway through September.
The Blazers lead the series 2-3-3 with the two squads tying at one in a match held in Birmingham last season. Georgia Southern has not lost against the Blazers in the last four meetings, which was a 2-1 road loss in 2017. In front of the home crowd, the Eagles are 1-0-1 against UAB.
