Get to know our ATs during Athletic Training Appreciation Month
STATESBORO - This month we are asking each member of our Georgia Southern athletic training staff to participate in a Q&A session as part of Athletic Trainer Appreciation Month. We will learn more about athletic training and more about the experiences of our athletic trainers and all the work they do for us behind the scenes!
The first trainer that we are highlighting is Brandi Boston. Brandi is an Assistant Athletic Trainer working primarily with men's basketball.
What is something about athletic training people often don't know?
"There are a lot of different domains and hats that athletic trainers wear. From the outside looking in people only see a fraction of what we do and are capable of doing every day."
What is your favorite part about being an athletic trainer?
"Every day is different; you get a glimpse behind the scenes and get to be a support system for so many people. I really enjoy the day-to-day interactions and celebrating the little wins with my athletes whether it's their first time playing in a game after an injury or the first time they get to activate a muscle or pick up a ball after a surgery those little moments are important and remind me of my why every day."
What is a treatment you like but don't get us as often/your favorite treatment?
"I like hands on treatment where I can feel a muscle release or see something activate. I also really enjoy dry needling and feeling the muscles twitch when I hit a trigger point just right—it's weirdly satisfying."
What is your favorite thing about working with your sport(s)?
"I like the family that working with a specific sport gives me. Spending that much time with people with daily life in sport and traveling really grows relationships and makes me feel like I'm making a difference and leaving an impact on those around me."
Fun Fact:
"Disney employs athletic trainers to take care of all of their performers/characters, if I wasn't working in the college setting that would definitely be something I would love to do."
