Get to know our ATs during Athletic Training Appreciation Month
STATESBORO - This month we are asking each member of our Georgia Southern athletic training staff to participate in a Q&A session as part of Athletic Trainer Appreciation Month. We will learn more about athletic training and more about the experiences of our athletic trainers and all the work they do for us behind the scenes!
Next up we have Kaitlyn Meyers. Kaitlyn is an assistant athletic trainer working with women's tennis and women's soccer.
What is something about athletic training people often don't know?
"Many people see athletic trainers as the people that take care of the athletes' physical well-being. I don't think people realize how much of a role we play in the care of their mental health. We take care of the entire athlete, not just what everyone sees from the outside."
What is your favorite part about being an athletic trainer?
"Being part of the little things with the student-athletes. I love celebrating the things off of the field/court with the athletes just as much as the things on it. Whether that is getting into their dream grad school, getting their dream job, or even just getting a good grade on a test. Forming a good enough relationship with athletes that they want to include you in their successes will never be something I take for granted."
What is a treatment you like but don't get us as often/your favorite treatment?
"I wouldn't say I have a favorite treatment in particular. Honestly for me, my favorite treatment is whatever brings the most success to the athlete's recovery. I do think the right rehab plan in combination with a good treatment plan creates the best outcomes for athletes. I don't really think you can have one without the other."
What is your favorite thing about working with your sport(s)?
"Working women's tennis, I love that they are from all around the world. Not only are they a great group of girls to work with, but each of them brings so much uniqueness to the team. They are constantly teaching me things and making me a more well-rounded person.
"Working women's soccer, I think their success over the last few years is a direct result of their willingness to work hard in everything they do. Every day I witness these girls work their hardest on the field, but then I get to see them bring that same mentality and willingness to work to rehab every day. This is something that I respect so much about them and drives me to bring my best every day."
