Coleman, Jones Post Top-Five Finishes at Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate

Both earn spot on all-tournament team

TOURNAMENT STATS AND SCORES

STATESBORO –
Freshman Brycen Jones and fifth-year Reece Coleman both shot a 5-under 211 to finish tied for fifth at the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate at the GSU Golf Course as all 10 Eagles opened the spring season. By finishing in the top five, both players earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

Jones started the tournament strong on Saturday, firing a 69 (-3) with three birdies and an eagle to lead the way. Parker Claxton led the way in round two on Saturday, shooting a 69 with five birdies and then on Sunday, Coleman used five birdies and an eagle to shoot a team-low 70 in tough conditions.

Jones tied for the tournament lead with two eagles while Lindsey Cordell, Luke Koenig and Coleman all had one. Hogan Ingram and Coleman tied for the team lead with 13 birdies apiece. Jones led the tournament with a -12 on the par 5s while Coleman tied for fourth with a -9. Coleman led the field on par 4s with a -2 and Hayden Carner and Claxton led the team with an even-par average on the par 3s.

In total, three Eagles finished in the top 10 (Jones, Coleman and Carner at T-10) with Claxton finishing tied for 18th and Ingram finished tied for 25th.

The field was the largest in the tournament's history with 79 players. South Carolina's Nathan Franks took medalist honors with a 204 (-12).

"This was a really exciting week for us at the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate! Not only did our team gain some great early-spring experience against great competitors, but we had four in the top 20 and two on the all-tournament team. It is an honor for us to host this event in Thomas's name. He definitely sprinkled some Scottish weather on us today, and it was great to see all the competitors fighting through it, just as Thomas would have. We are excited that our spring is underway, and we are continuing to work hard and build in this direction. A big thank you goes out to the entire Georgia Southern University golf staff, and all of our support staff for helping put together. It was a fantastic event for 79 student-athletes from all over the country."
