Parker records near-double-double
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.– Georgia Southern men's basketball (0-9) led at half for the first time, but couldn't get the threes to fall in the second at North Florida (6-5), losing 64-56 on Saturday.
The Eagles scored first after an Eren Banks three-pointer, but the Ospreys held a slim two-point lead at the first media timeout. Jamar Franklin's three made it 18-16 UNF.
GS fought back in front, and a second-chance basket by Avantae Parker extended the lead to three points at the under-four media.
The Eagles had the opportunity to get the last shot, and Banks' layup was goaltended, giving the Eagles their largest advantage all season at seven points heading into halftime.
Eugene Brown III recorded a pair of layups to hold the advantage at six early on in the second, however, an onslaught by the Ospreys made that the largest lead the Eagles would have for the rest of the game.
Georgia Southern did get as close as one late, but timely threes - and a 2-14 second-half mark in that department for the Eagles - ultimately did the team in as UNF emerged with a 64-56 win.
Four different Eagles recorded ten points in Banks, Parker, Tyren Moore and Nate Brafford, and Parker had a near-double-double with eight rebounds. Cam Bryant's nine rebounds led all players.
The Eagles head on the road for the final time in non-conference play to take on #17 Tennessee.
