NCAA SCORECARD
LEXINGTON, Va. - Behind standout performances in the finals and a strong team effort across the board, the Georgia Southern rifle team posted a 2,266 in smallbore on the opening day of the 2022 Southern Conference Rifle Championships, being held at VMI's Kilbourne Hall.
In the qualifier,
Amy Visconti paced the Eagles with a 579 to place first, followed closely by
Erin Ballard's 577 which took second place.
Bella Gamez (558, T-15th),
Kinsley Hannon (552, 23rd) and
Lillian Herring (540, T-27th) rounded out the solid scoring for the Eagles.
With their scores, Visconti and Ballard easily advanced to the finals where the duo dominated the competition. In a back-and-forth battle, Ballard came out on top to become the school's first SoCon Smallbore Conference Champion. Visconti took runner-up honors and both will earn first-team all-conference plaudits.
The eight teams will compete in the air rifle discipline on Sunday and the two team scores will be added up to determine the 2022 SoCon Champs. The Eagles hold an 11-point lead going into Sunday's action.
