Eagles Smash Records, Finish Regular Season With Two Wins

Air rifle, aggregate records fall on Saturday
NCAA SCORECARD
STATESBORO - The 18th-ranked Georgia Southern rifle team wrapped up its regular season with a pair of victories Saturday, downing UAB at the Shooting Sports Education Center and the VMI Women via postal match. The Eagles broke the school record in air rifle and aggregate to finish the regular season on a strong note.
In smallbore, Erin Ballard tied her career high with a 581 to take first place. Amy Visconti shot a 575 to place second, followed by Bella Gamez (566, 4th), Lillian Herring (career-high 564, T-5th), Kinsley Hannon (563, 7th) and Ashley Judson (544, 11th). The team finished with a 2,285, just four off the school record.
In air rifle, the Eagles posted a school-record 2,358 as they claimed the top four spots. Judson shot a 593 to place first, followed by a career-high 590 from Visconti to take second. Ballard shot a personal best with a 588 to place third and Hannon also shot a career high with a 587 to take fourth. Anna Mayo shot a 571 to place seventh and Gabby Morrow shot a 567 to take 10th.
The Eagles posted a school-record 4,643 aggregate, breaking the mark by 18 set last week. Ballard took first with a career-best 1,169, followed by Visconti in second with a 1,165 and Hannon in fourth with a career-high tying 1,150. Judson placed sixth with a 1,137.
The event served as the NCAA Qualifier. Judson's 593 will put her in the hunt for one of four at-large bids to the Championships, which the NCAA will announced Feb. 22 at 3 p.m.
With the wins, Georgia Southern caps a perfect SoCon dual match season with an 8-0 mark and finishes the season with a 13-5 overall record. The 13 wins are tied for the most in program history.
