STATESBORO – Isaiah Thompson scored 17 points, and FGCU shot 54 percent in the second half to top Georgia Southern 70-53 in non-conference men's basketball action Wednesday night in Hanner Fieldhouse.

Eagles of the Game
Jalen Finch finished with 16 points, two assists and three rebounds, and Kaden Archie tallied 13 points and three assists. Tai Strickland had 11 points and three rebounds, and Carlos Curry collected seven points and five boards.

Key Moments
FGCU led by 14 late in the contest when Finch hit a 3-pointer, and Strickland tipped a loose ball, defensive rebound ahead to Curry for a dunk that made the score 61-52 with 3:35 remaining. GS got consecutive defensive stops but could not convert at the other end, missing a layup and a pair of free throws.

Caleb Catto (13 points) pushed the lead back into double digits with a rainbow 3-pointer in a late shot clock, and Thompson drove to the basket for a layup and a 66-52 cushion with 1:12 remaining.

FGCU used a 17-2 run over 7:22 span in the first half to build a 13-point advantage. Georgia Southern shot 1 for 10 from the floor and went scoreless for five minutes during the stretch. The home Eagles recovered and made their next five field goals, sparking a 9-0 run and trimming the margin to 24-20 on a dunk by Archie with 4:26 remaining.

Stats and Notes
- Each team shot 13 free throws, but FGCU outscored GS by five points at the charity stripe.
- GS was without Andrei Savrasov and Johnny McFatten for the second straight contest.
- FGCU outscored GS 22-0 in points off the bench.
