Men’s Basketball Stifles Trinity Baptist for 53-32 Win

STATESBORO – Andrei Savrasov collected 16 points, 11 rebounds and three steals, and Georgia Southern held Trinity Baptist to 20 percent shooting to earn a 53-32 win in their home opener Friday night in Hanner Fieldhouse.

Eagles of the Game
Savrasov shot 6 of 10 from the field and 4 of 5 from the free-throw line and corralled seven offensive boards for Georgia Southern (1-2). Tyren Moore tallied eight points, four rebounds and a steal, and Jalen Finch finished with seven points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Kamari Brown notched six points, two rebounds two steals and a career-high five blocked shots.

Key Moments
Carlos Curry's layup sparked a 23-6 Georgia Southern run that opened a 26-point cushion in the second half. Finch scored all seven of his points during the stretch, and Moore hit a triple and a pair of free throws. Amar Augillard capped the run with a pair of free throws to make the score 50-24 with 4:04 to play.

Stats and Notes
- GS improves to 46-4 in home openers and has won the last 11.
- The Eagles finished with 10 blocked shots, two shy of the school single-game record.
- Trinity Baptist's shooting percentage was the second-lowest for an Eagle opponent since the 1985-86 season (Carver – 19 percent - Dec. 15, 2020).
- It was Savrasov's first career double-double.
- It was Georgia Southern's third game in six days, one of which included a cross-country flight home from California.
- It was the annual TP toss game, and fans threw toilet paper on the floor following the Eagles' first basket of the game.
- It was the first meeting between Trinity Baptist and Georgia Southern.
