Graduate student carried a perfect 4.0 GPA for the Eagles in 2020-21
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern midfielder Jack Philp has been named to the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 Men's Soccer squad, announced today by the organization.
The graduate student and Edinburgh, Scotland, native carried a perfect 4.0 GPA in his Biology graduate studies in 2020-21. In his second season with the Eagles, Philp started all 10 matches for the Eagles in the Fall of 2020, playing 767 minutes, which was the second-most on the squad. He took two shots, one on goal, and played every minute of his last five matches of the season for the Eagles, starting with the Oct. 16 match vs. Georgia State.
Philp joined the Eagles as a graduate transfer from Hartwick College, where he earned his bachelor's of science degree in chemistry in just three years. He played in 16 matches in 2019 for Georgia Southern, making 13 starts and collecting an assist in 919 minutes of action.
"On behalf of the program, I would like to congratulate Jack on this award," Georgia Southern Head Coach John Murphy said. "During his two years with us, he has shown that he is an elite student-athlete in every sense of the phrase, both on and off the field. We are very proud of him!"
Philp is the sixth Georgia Southern men's soccer player to earn Academic All-District 4 honors over the last five seasons, joining Gonzalo Talavera (2019), Javier Carbonell (2018), Emil Laursen (2016 & 2017) and Adam Abdellaoui (2016). He will now advance to national balloting for possible CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, which will be announced on July 5.
