STATESBORO - This spring, COVID-19 suddenly disrupted lives across the world. In doing so, student-athletes competing in spring sports were given an abrupt notice that their seasons were canceled. The NCAA granted an extra year of eligibility for those affected, but the decision required a plan to procure the funds to pay for their returns.
Eagle Nation came together in a big way as 308 donors have given a combined $94,386 to the cause to help offset the cost during these unprecedented times. To those who gave, we thank you! Your support is greatly appreciated.
"We can't thank Eagle Nation enough for supporting the Finish Strong campaign," said
David Cutler, associate director of development for the Georgia Southern Athletic Foundation. "Even during these difficult, uncertain and challenging times, Eagle Nation stepped up to help give our senior student-athletes a chance to suit up for the Eagles one more time."
Georgia Southern's spring sports rosters included 21 scholarship seniors, 14 of whom have committed to returning next season or are still making their decision. Spring sports with student-athletes expected to return include baseball, softball, men's and women's tennis, as well as men's and women's golf.
While the Finish Strong campaign is over, those who still want to help out and support the Eagles may do so by joining the Eagle Fund. The Eagle Fund is the main fundraising arm for the Athletic Department and is the annual scholarship fund for Georgia Southern Athletics. Contributions to the Eagle Fund support nearly 400 student-athletes who play in one of the 17 Division I varsity sport programs by providing academic scholarships. Eagle Fund memberships start at just $120 and can even be set up monthly for just $10/month. For more information and to join online, visit
