GSEagles.com catches up with each position coach following the shortened spring ball
Even with spring practice being cut short, the Georgia Southern football coaching staff was able to evaluate its program through offseason lifting and conditioning, as well as six on-field practices. GSEagles.com was able to catch up with each coach via email to get their thoughts on their group, as well as a preliminary two-deep heading into the fall.
Honestly no one jumped out but I will say that both Shai and Justin has a nice "scrimmage" to end things if in fact there is no more spring ball.
Who's someone who didn't see a lot of game action that has impressed you this offseason?:
Again, no one jumped out. Justin continues to mature but still needs to show more consistency. Shai was gone for the most part due to his post-graduate internship in Atlanta.
What will be a top priority for your group when you return to the field?:
We have to continue to develop a passing game that is efficient and productive. We will always be "run" first, but our focus this spring was finding things our guys could do in the passing game.
What excites you about your group?:
Shai should be poised for a very productive year. With more consistency, we think Justin can be a good one as well. We are excited about our incoming freshmen. We think they are all talented competitors.
Who is or are the vocal leader(s) in your meeting room?:
Shai, but Justin is not afraid to speak up.
Who leads more by example?:
Shai leads more by example than vocally.
Post-Spring Two-Deep:
QB: 1, Shai Werts (5-11, 205, r-Sr.)
17, Justin Tomlin (5-11, 190, r-So.)
Today, we hear from offensive coordinator Bob DeBesse, who also coaches the quarterbacks.
Who stood out for your group in the short amount of time you were practicing?:Honestly no one jumped out but I will say that both Shai and Justin has a nice "scrimmage" to end things if in fact there is no more spring ball.
