AD addresses Eagle Nation in letter form
As I type this letter it is finally starting to register with me that summer is in the rearview mirror and we are already racing through the fall. This past Saturday at Paulson Stadium was picturesque: 71 degrees and sunny (with a breeze) to go along with a 41-0 win. Evenings after a win are always more enjoyable – thank you to all who attended the last-minute game.
This weekend we travel to Conway, S.C., to take on No. 25 Coastal Carolina (4-0). Coach Lunsford and his team are hard at work this week as we get ready for a physical game with the Chanticleers. With limited capacity at Brooks Stadium this weekend, I encourage Eagle Nation to explore third-party sites to purchase tickets. For those of you unable to attend, our game is currently slated to broadcast on ESPNU and you can listen to the call on our Georgia Southern Sports Network with Danny and Terry.
A couple of weeks ago I crossed over the six-month milestone from my April 1 start date. As I reflect on my time in Statesboro, I am reminded how blessed myself, Sarah, Hudson and Cooper are to call this community and Georgia Southern home. We have a top-notch staff on campus and within Athletics that continues to do an excellent job of serving and being innovative on a daily basis. And we have the BEST fans in the country!
I had a chance this past Friday to attend several of our team practices and I continue to be impressed with the resiliency of our student-athletes coaches, and staff. The daily routines and responsibilities of our student-athletes have been adversely impacted this fall with the ever-changing derivatives associated with COVID-19. I have yet to talk with a student-athlete who is not optimistic and excited about their respected seasons. The young men and women in our program continue to inspire and make me proud. I know each of them would greatly appreciate your support in the upcoming months as we host various competitions both in Statesboro and on the road.
As a department, we continue to focus on the "controllables" in our daily lives. With all of the outside noise and distractions that we experience on a daily basis, we continue to place emphasis on the three controllables in our lives – our attitude, our effort, and how we treat others. Perspective also serves as a healthy reminder that we have a lot to be thankful for.
In the upcoming months, I look forward to sharing some exciting facility updates with each of you. Our Athletic Foundation is hard at work getting out on the road sharing our vision for the future of Georgia Southern Athletics. For those of you who we have not visited yet, rest assured we look forward to stopping by in the near future.
In closing, in order for Georgia Southern to reach its desired goals, I will continue to strategically highlight three (3) things that individuals and companies can do to help us:
Our Athletic Ticket Office is ready to assist you in purchasing tickets and can be reached at 1-800-GSU-WINS or via email at tickets@georgiasouthern.edu. For those wishing to donate, please go to Give.GSEagles.com.

- Financially support the Athletic Foundation and the Erk Russell Fund
- Buy season tickets and create a home-field advantage
- Get others to do the same!
