GAME PREVIEW: Georgia Southern to Open Home Slate Saturday

Eagles welcome sixth-ranked Maine to Paulson Stadium

The Georgia Southern football team is slated to open its home portion of the 2019 schedule on Saturday, hosting sixth-ranked Maine of the FCS at Allen E. Paulson Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast online through ESPN+. The game will also be available via radio on the Georgia Southern Sports Network. Here's all you need to know about the game:

Facts Maybe Only We Find Interesting: This will be the fourth football meeting between Maine and Georgia Southern, the first non-playoff meeting as the previous three all came in NCAA I-AA/FCS Playoffs and were played in Statesboro at Paulson Stadium … The first meeting came in 1987 in the Round of 16 with the Eagles winning 31-28 … The second meeting came in 2002 in the quarterfinals with the Eagles rolling to a 31-7 win … The last meeting came in 2011 in the quarterfinal round with GS taking a 35-23 win after the Eagles held the ball for 42:24 … GS has a 26-10 record against current members of the CAA … GS has won 22 straight games at home against non-conference opponents (including vacated wins and FCS Playoff games) dating back to a Nov. 18, 2006 OT loss to end the season to Central Arkansas … GS has won 11 of its past 12 home openers and is 28-7-1 all-time in home openers, including 28-6 at Paulson Stadium … This will be the first time GS has played back-to-back ranked teams since 2012 when it played No. 54 Old Dominion and No. 1 North Dakota State in the final two rounds of the FCS Playoffs …The last FCS ranked team Georgia Southern played was No. 16 Wofford in 2013.
