Men’s Basketball Wins Fourth Straight, Beats App 92-69

BOONE, N.C. – Tookie Brown tallied 28 points and eight rebounds, and Georgia Southern shot 55 percent to earn a 92-69 Sun Belt men's basketball victory over Appalachian State Saturday afternoon in the Holmes Center.

The Eagles won their 10th game away from home this season and finished the campaign 6-3 in road Sun Belt games. GS has now reached double digits in the win column in all five of their seasons in the Sun Belt.

Eagles of the game
Brown was 9 of 13 from the field and 8 of 9 from the charity stripe. Simeon Carter tallied 18 points, four rebounds and two blocked shots, and Montae Glenn chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds.

Key moments
The Eagles (18-10, 10-5) took control of the game with a 20-3 run over a 5:45 stretch in the first half. Brown scored eight points during the run, and the Eagles held Appalachian State (9-18, 4-10) to 1 for 8 from the field and forced three turnovers.

The Mountaineers worked the score to 57-47 in the second half, but Carter netted four points as the Eagles scored six of the next seven in the game to push the lead back up to 15 points. The margin never dipped below 14 for the remainder of the game.  

Inside the numbers
The Eagles held Appalachian State to 32 percent shooting and made 36 of 66 at the other end. The Mountaineers held a 41-18 edge in free-throw attempts and outscored GS 28-14 from the foul line.

GS finishes the regular season with three straight home games, starting Thursday as Little Rock visits Statesboro. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in Hanner Fieldhouse.
