Big Men Lead Men’s Basketball to 79-74 Win at Coastal Carolina

The Eagles play at Appalachian State Saturday afternoon.

CONWAY, S.C. – Montae Glenn scored 16 points, and Georgia Southern shot 57 percent in the second half to earn a hard-fought 79-74 win over Coastal Carolina Thursday night in the HTC Center.

Glenn was 8 of 10 from the floor and added four rebounds, while fellow big man Simeon Carter posted 13 points, making 6 of 8 from the field, three rebounds and two blocked shots. Tookie Brown collected 17 points, six rebounds and four assists, and Quan Jackson tallied 15 points and seven rebounds. David-Lee Jones Jr. scored 12.

Key moments
The Eagles (17-10, 9-5) scored seven straight points to break a 50-50 tie late in the second half, and Jackson's triple from the corner made the run 12-4 and gave GS a 62-54 lead with 6:31 remaining. Coastal Carolina (12-13, 6-7) answered with a long 3-pointer by Tyrell Gumbs-Frater and called timeout to set up full-court pressure, but the Eagles made seven straight free throws to hold off the Chants. Coastal Carolina never trimmed the margin within five points the rest of the way.

Inside the numbers
The Eagles hit their first 14 free throws of the second half and made 25 of 30 from the charity stripe, good for 83 percent. GS made 13 of 23 from the floor in the second half and shot 47 percent for the game.
