Kramer Shines at NCAA Qualifier

Senior shoots 596 in air rifle, closes in on NCAA bid

SCORECARD

CHARLESTON, S.C. -
Rosemary Kramer put up a big number when she had to, posting a 596 in air rifle and a 1,170 aggregate to take medalist honors at the NCAA Qualifier Saturday at the Inouye Marksmanship Center. It marked her fifth win of the season and her 596 moves her closer to a bid to the NCAA Championships to participate in the air rifle discipline.

In smallbore, Caroline Brakeville blistered her previous career high by 20 points, posting a 553 to get the Eagles off to a strong start. Courtney Weekley battled for an impressive 558 considering the circumstances and then followed that with a 580 in air rifle to post a 1,138 aggregate. Lydia Odlin placed 10th in air rifle with a 574 to continue a recent string of strong performances.

Although the NCAA hasn't officially announced the bids, Kramer's 596 was the third-best number in the country on Saturday and the best of anyone not on a top-eight team and the top four individual scores from non-qualifying teams earn bids as well. Other teams shoot on Sunday, but if it stands, she'd be the first Georgia Southern rifle student-athlete to qualify for the Big Dance in the program's short history.

Overall, the Eagles downed Wofford and The Citadel Women, posting a 4,517 aggregate, but fell to No. 20 UAB and The Citadel.

Words From Coach Worman:
"Today was a great match in many ways. The team worked very hard on the things we've been improving on in practice, and that work ethic showed up in their performances. The scores may not fully reflect the hard work that I saw them doing on the line, but they are putting in the necessary diligence to level up and it's just a matter of time until that shows up in the scores. I don't normally do individual shout outs, but Rose has a fair shot (shooting pun intended) at an NCAA individual invitation. We shall watch with interest as the rest of the schools finish up their NCAA qualifier over the weekend. "
