SCORECARD
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - It was a day of season bests as the Georgia Southern rifle squad took down M.I.T. 4,511-4,342 Friday afternoon at the DuPont Athletic Center. Georgia Southern shooters took the top three spots as freshman Ashley Judson won both disciplines and took home her third straight overall victory. As a squad, the Eagles posted season highs in smallbore (2,210), air rifle (2,301) and aggregate (4,511) to highlight the day.
In smallbore, Judson posted a season-best 192 in kneeling, which is tied for the fifth-best score in program history. She followed that up with a 195 prone, a new career high and a point off of top-five status. Senior Lydia Odlin, in her penultimate match with the Eagles, finished second with a 559 while Lillian Herring placed third with a career-best 550. Gabby Morrow shot a 531 to place sixth and Amelia Pierce produced a 523 to finish eighth.
In air rifle, Judson led the way with a 582, followed by Odlin and Morrow both posting 575s. For Morrow, it was a career high. Herring placed fourth with a 569 and Pierce posted a 546.
Judson picked up her third collegiate win, firing a 1,152 aggregate. Odlin's 1,134 tied her career high which she set last week. Herring finished third with a 1,119 while Morrow (1,106) and Pierce (1,069) placed fifth and eighth, respectively.
As a team, the Eagles bested their season high by 12 points in smallbore, 12 points in air rifle and 24 in aggregate.
Words From Coach Worman:
"The team did great today! Their skill and expertise at framing both new things and curveballs as non-things is really becoming a reliable tool. We've done well on day one and they have already started the recovery phase in preparation for tomorrow's match. What started out as a slow climb at the beginning of the season is starting to pick up a lot of steam and speed. I'm pleased and proud."
