NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference announced Monday that Georgia Southern football student-athletes
Wesley Fields and
Joshua Moon will join head coach
Chad Lunsford at the 2018 Sun Belt Media Day on July 23 at the Mercedes Benz Superdome located in New Orleans.
Lunsford enters his first full season at the helm of the Eagles and will be looking to build off the momentum of a strong finish. The Eagles concluded the season with a 52-0 win over South Alabama and an impressive road win at Louisiana. The Eagles open preseason camp on Aug. 3 and open the season on Sept. 1 at home against South Carolina State.
Fields (6-0, 200; Sr.; RB; Americus, GA) played in all 12 games last year, starting 10 … An honorable mention All-Sun Belt selection … Was on the field for 625 offensive snaps … Led the team with 811 rushing yards on the season … Recorded five touchdowns … Had 11 catches for 71 yards and a score … Ran for 103 yards (long of 48 yards) and a touchdown against New Mexico State University … Had 186 rushing yards (long of 48 yards) and a touchdown against Louisiana … Had rushing touchdowns against Arkansas State, New Mexico State, Troy, South Alabama and Louisiana … Had two receptions for 28 yards (long of 25 yards) and a touchdown against South Alabama … Caught a pass for 21 yards against Coastal Carolina … Had off-season shoulder surgery and missed the spring … Made the President's List in the spring for a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Moon (6-0, 200; Sr.; S; Fairburn, GA) played in 10 games last year, starting seven … Was on the field for 438 snaps (431 defensive, 7 special teams) … Was third on the team in tackles with 47 … Included in that total were 3.5 tackles and a sack … Had two interceptions and two pass break ups … Had a big game against UMass with 14 tackles (8u, 6a) … Had a sack for a loss of 9 yards against Georgia State … Recorded interceptions in back to back games against Louisiana and Coastal Carolina … Made the Honor Roll in the spring.
ESPN3 will broadcast live from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome from 2-4 p.m. ET at media day and will sit down with all head coaches in addition to Sun Belt Conference commissioner Karl Benson.
