Players Returning
UMass returns two of their top rushers from the 2017 season, including Marquis Young who played in all 12 games and gained 1,027 yards and nine touchdowns. Starting quarterback Andrew Ford returns for his redshirt senior season after finishing the 2017 season 223 of 353 for 2,924 yards and 22 touchdowns. Bryton Barr led the Minutemen in tackles last season with 105 total stops and had one interception. His 45 unassisted tackles led the team. The Minutemen graduated their team leader in tackles for loss and sacks in Da'Sean Downey, who posted six sacks for 30 yards.
Series History
UMass currently leads the series 2-1. The Minutemen downed the Eagles last year in Amherst, 55-20. In the 1999 I-AA quarterfinals, GS won 38-21 behind five touchdowns and 333 yards rushing from Adrian Peterson at Paulson Stadium en route to a national title. The Minutemen beat GS 55-43 in the 1998 national championship game in Chattanooga.
