Defense Leads Eagles to 15-13 Win at Texas State

Georgia Southern improves to 5-1 overall, 3-0 in SBC
SAN MARCOS, Texas - Kindle Vildor swatted away a game-tying two-point conversion late and Obe Fortune recovered the ensuing onside kick as the Georgia Southern football squad held on for a 15-13 Sun Belt Conference win over Texas State Thursday night at Bobcat Stadium.
Key Moment: It happened on the first drive of the game as Texas State marched down the field. The Bobcats had three plays from the 1-yard line and the Eagles bowed up three times to force a turnover on downs. On fourth down, Jay Bowdry and Chris Harris Jr. penetrated the line and stopped the Bobcats from scoring.
GS Play of the Game: After Magill Bauerle pinned the Bobcats at the 5-yard line on a punt, Raymond Johnson III and Lane Ecton came off opposite edges to sack quarterback Willie Jones III for a safety that proved to be the deciding two points.
Key Stat: At this point last year, Georgia Southern was 0-6. This year, they are 5-1 and one win away from bowl eligibility for the second time in program history.

Wesley Fields capped off a 13-play scoring drive with a 5-yard touchdown run up the middle early in the second quarter to give the Eagles the lead. GS 7-0
After Joshua Moon recorded his fifth career interception late in the first half, Tyler Bass hit a 24-yard field goal as time expired. GS 10-0

GS Player of the Game: The Georgia Southern defense recorded nine tackles for loss, including four sacks, while also recording a safety and an interception to led the way. Randy Wade Jr. had seven tackles and Harris Jr. had six, including 1.5 for loss and a sack.
