Eddie Landin's strong play helps push GS to 3-4 against Greensboro
STATESBORO, Ga.- On Saturday, the Georgia Southern men's tennis team dropped another close one to UNC Greensboro at home, falling 3-4. This match marks their second in a row where the Eagles were just one point short of clinching the match—the last time being against Florida Gulf Coast.
"I have to give credit to UNCG today-- they played their hearts out," head coach Sander Koningsaid. "We put ourselves in position multiple times to finish a match and we didn't. UNCG took advantage of that."
Unlike last match, the Eagles gave up the doubles point despite Eddie Landin and JC Alcala's convincing 6-0 win over UNCG's line three duo Walker and Melnik.
Landin also found success in singles, winning his match 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 at line four.
"I want to compliment Eddie-- he played his heart out. He was down 2-5 in the third set, but kept fighting and was able to get a win," Koning said. "I also liked the way Rise (Lanne) and Dani (Casablancas) took care of business on their courts."
Dani Casablancas, who went 2-0 in singles last weekend and clinched the first conference match over Troy, pulled out another win today. He took down Bryan 6-3, 6-2 at the No.5 position. At line one, Rise Lanne defeated Thompson by the same score.
JC Alcala (No.2), Ze Moya (No.3) and Chris Kerrigan (No.6) each had close matches, but UNCG slipped away to pick up the three additional points to push them to 4-3.
