Eagle fans and alumni get preview of 2015 season
SAVANNAH, Ga. – More than 150 Eagle fans and alumni packed the Johnny Harris Banquet facility in Savannah Thursday afternoon for a chance to listen to head football coach Willie Fritz provide a preview of the 2015 Georgia Southern football season. Fritz spoke about the upcoming season, recapped the highlights from 2014's Sun Belt championship campaign and took questions from the audience.
As he stood before the crowd at today's event, he noted that one of the reasons he decided to take the Georgia Southern head coaching position was because of the passionate, and knowledgeable Eagle fans. Fritz, who begins his 23rd year as a collegiate head football coach, will lead the Eagles into their second season in the FBS as the Eagles are now bowl eligible for the first time in program history.
The audience peppered Coach Fritz with questions ranging from kickers, new rules, freshmen who will contribute this year and the need for artificial turf so the team doesn't have to miss practice due to weather.
Kevin Bostian, Senior Associate AD for Development/Executive Director Athletic Foundation, spoke on behalf of the Georgia Southern Athletic Foundation, announcing tha the school is close to its goal of 7,000 season tickets sold and also went over season tickets and parking logistics for the year.
Georgia Southern kicks off the season at West Virginia on Saturday, Sept. 5 and then opens its home slate a week later in Paulson Stadium against Western Michigan on Sept. 12.
Alumni and friends in the Savannah area gather regularly at the Johnny Harris banquet facility to hear from University guests, coaches and Eagle Athletics Administration. The world-famous barbeque, sweet tea and fellowship is always a draw, but the Fritz provided those gathered with information on how the Eagle squad developed during the preseason and his thoughts on the upcoming year.
