"I'm honored to join the Georgia Southern athletics team at a very exciting time," Johnston said. "Tom Kleinlein, Gleen Hart and their leadership team are doing incredible things and have great plans for the future, all while keeping an appreciation for the rich history of Georgia Southern athletics. I will always be grateful for my time in Blacksburg and at Virginia Tech, but I am extremely excited to now be a part of the Georgia Southern Family."
Johnston will oversee the athletics communications office at GS and will also head up the media relations for the football squad, traveling with the team and taking care of all media requests. He will play a lead role in planning, developing and managing of complex and innovative projects, and implementing across multiple digital platforms.
In 16 years at Virginia Tech, Johnston oversaw the media relations aspects for the football, wrestling and softball teams. Johnston came to Tech in 1999 as an intern following graduation from college and was made a full-time employee in 2000.
