Spring Roster | 2015 Schedule
STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern football team will begin preparations to defend its Sun Belt Conference title Wednesday on the banks of Beautiful Eagle Creek in the first of 15 spring practice sessions.
Practices are slated for each Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday for the next three weeks leading up to the Blue & White Spring Game April 18, at 1 p.m. in Paulson Stadium (practice schedule is below).
The Eagles return 58 lettermen to the 2015 team, including five starters on offense and eight of the defensive side of the ball. Georgia Southern won the Sun Belt Conference Championship in its first season in the league and will look to defend the title this fall.
Whereas Willie Fritz and his coaching staff spent the bulk of spring practice a year ago putting in their system, the second-year coach of the Eagles will look to focus on adding to the schemes and drilling fundamentals and technique.
"Practice number one will be like practice number 10 last year," said Fritz. "We've got a lot of things in already, the NCAA allows you to meet a little more than you used to be able to, and we've got a lot of veteran players coming back. So we want to experiment a little bit with our offense, defense and kicking game schematically, but we also want to get better technique and fundamentals."
Georgia Southern will host the annual Blue-White Spring Game in Paulson Stadium. Honorary Coaches Dr. Brooks A. Keel and Leonard Bevill will assist in coaching the two teams.
The spring game will once again feature the Tailgate Cook-Off, pitting some of the top Georgia Southern tailgaters against each other prior to the game.

Georgia Southern will face two Power Five conference teams, four teams that played in bowl games a year ago and will host six home games in Paulson Stadium in 2015. The Eagles have also been selected to play two games on nationally-televised ESPNU Thursday night broadcasts.
Georgia Southern will open the season at Big 12 member West Virginia Sept. 5, and will also travel to Athens, Ga., to face SEC member Georgia Nov. 21. Both teams played in bowl games a year ago - the Mountaineers playing in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, and Georgia competed in the Belk Bowl.
The Eagles will also host a pair of teams that played in bowl games last season. Western Michigan (Famous Idaho Potato Bowl) comes to town for the home opener Sept. 12 on Night of Champions, and the Eagles welcome South Alabama (Raycom Media Camellia Bowl) Nov. 28.
Texas State, which finished the season bowl eligible with a 7-5 record, will travel to Statesboro for a Thursday night ESPNU national broadcast Oct. 29. Georgia Southern's game at rival Appalachian State Oct. 22 will also air on ESPNU.
The Eagles will close out the 2015 regular season at home against in-state rival Georgia State Dec. 5. All home games and all Sun Belt Conference games will once again air on the ESPN platform.
