MOBILE, Ala. - The Georgia Southern Eagles kicked off their first bowl week in program history with a day of travel, meetings and a welcome reception at the GoDaddy Bowl.
The Eagles left Statesboro at 8:30 a.m. to a send-off from fans, members of the band and cheerleaders and arrived in Mobile by charter flight late Saturday morning. After a quick trip from the airport to the hotel, the hungry travel party enjoyed a catered meal at the Renaissance Riverview Hotel and then had a team meeting to go over everything for the week. Members of the hotel staff, security staff and GoDaddy Bowl reps briefed the team on the best places to go - and not to go - in downtown Mobile, along with other useful items.
The team then lined up for what's one of the biggest perks of a bowl game: the gear. The players already received a light up Yeti cooler before leaving town and then got the rest of their swag at the hotel, including a bluetooth speaker, travel suit, shirts, a watch and a football.
Interim head coach Dell McGee then went over to the Civic Center to meet the media and the Eagles joined him shortly after for a low country seafood broil where both the Eagles and Bowling Green attended and got to size each other up in advance of Wednesday's game.
On Sunday, both teams will enjoy a tour of the USS Alabama, followed by their first practices.
The GoDaddy Bowl will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 23 at 7 p.m. (CT)/8 p.m. (ET) on ESPN.
