The Series

• This will be the first meeting between Georgia Southern and Bowling Green on the football field.

• Georgia Southern and Bowling Green have one common opponent this season in Western Michigan. The Eagles downed WMU 43-17, while the Falcons beat the Broncos 41-27.

Let's Go Bowling
• Georgia Southern resurrected its program in 1982 and thrived at the FCS level, winning six national titles. After deciding to make the move to the FBS, the Eagles have continued to soar with a 17-7 record in two seasons.

• Last year, GS won the Sun Belt with an 8-0 mark, but was ineligible for a bowl game as the program was in the second year of the NCAA's mandatory transition phase.

• So after 34 seasons, 11 conference titles and six national championships, this will be Georgia Southern's first NCAA postseason bowl game. The three FBS programs appearing in their first bowl game in program history this year - Georgia Southern, Appalachian State and Georgia State - all hail from the Sun Belt Conference.

Against the Mid-American Conference
• Georgia Southern has played just three games all-time against any of the 13 teams in the MAC.

• Two of those games came against UMass back in 1998 and 1999 when both teams were in the Division I-AA level. In 1998, the Minutemen got the best of the Eagles in the national championship game, winning 55-43 in Chattanooga. The Eagles evened the series with a 38-21 win at home a year later in the second round of the playoffs en route to a national championship.

• Earlier this season, GS rolled past Western Michigan, 43-17, at Paulson Stadium in Statesboro.

• GS has five games against MAC teams on future schedules: at Western Michigan (2016); at UMass (2017); UMass (2018); at Kent State (2018); Kent State (2019).

At Neutral Sites
• Georgia Southern is 16-4 all-time at neutral sites, including six games in FCS National Championship games, four of which the Eagles won. The program's last neutral site game came in 2000 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, as the Eagles beat Montana 27-25 for a national title.

Alabama History
• The Eagles are 7-8 all-time in games played in the state of Alabama, including 1-0 in Mobile and in Ladd-Peebles Stadium, home of the GoDaddy Bowl. The Eagles beat South Alabama 28-6 in 2014 for the program's first-ever Sun Belt Conference victory.

Sweet Home Alabama
• Two players on the Georgia Southern dress squad will be returning to play in the state they began their college football careers in.

• Starting long snapper Jake Banta redshirted at UAB in 2011 before transferring to GS for the past three seasons.

• Offensive guard Roscoe Byrd's path is a little more unusual as the senior played three seasons at UAB and was a starter on the offensive line as a junior. He left Birmingham when the program was ended after last season and is playing his final season in Statesboro.

• Defensive end Lennie Richardson began his career at Troy, but is out with a shoulder injury and isn't expected to play against the Falcons.

• The Eagles have two players on their roster from Alabama: Christian Williams (Wetumpka) and Monteo Garrett (Taladega).
