Dobson earns the award for the second-straight season
STATESBORO, GA. – Georgia Southern football student-athletes Matt Dobson and James Dean were named to the 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 Team today, representing the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. Individuals must have had a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale and be a starter or key reserve to be nominated. The selections from eight districts advance to a national ballot for voting for Academic All-America honors.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
A senior native of Monticello, Florida, Dobson claimed his second-straight all-district award in 2015 as he gets closer to earning his degree in history. This year, Dobson has 33 tackles and an interception to raise his career total to six interceptions. His excellent performance in the classroom garnered him Second-Team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in the 2014 season.
Now competing in his redshirt junior season, Dean has started four of the eight games this season at tight end. Dean has helped pave the way for the Eagles to lead the nation in rushing with 385.6 yards per game on the ground. With his outstanding work in the classroom, Dean is closing in on his degree in mechanical engineering.
The Eagles are back on the road on Nov. 14 as the Eagles visit Troy for a 3:30 p.m. (ET) game against the Trojans. Watch the game live on ESPN3.
