A Q&A with the senior kicker
Alex Hanks • #47
Kicker • Marietta, Ga.
5-7 • 185 • Sr.
Plans after graduation:
Attend law school
What is the hardest part about being a senior?
The hardest part about being a senior is trying to soak in every last moment. Freshman year, there are so many "first time" experiences. But knowing as a senior that a lot of the events and activities that we get to do with our teammates are the last time makes it hard to deal with.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
My biggest inspiration comes from my family. I admire all four of them for the different challenges that they all have faced and conquered. My love and appreciation for them goes beyond my ability to express it in words.
Best advice you have ever been given:
Don't go out tonight.
Favorite Georgia Southern game day tradition:
Riding the Yellow Dogs. Nothing compares to that.
Most memorable moment of your career at Georgia Southern:
Winning the Sun Belt our first season is obviously up there but something about that Florida game was just special. A lot of the old, hard-nosed leaders of that team were sent off the right way and I'll never forget it.
Once you're done at Southern, what do you want to be remembered as?
Above anything else, I want to be remembered as a good teammate. I would like everyone on our roster to feel like they can come up to me and approach me with anything that's on their mind. Izzy Youyoute was that guy when I was younger and I always appreciated that.
What do you want to say to the fans who have watched you play during your time at Georgia Southern?
To the True Blue faithful that were always there and supported us during the good and bad times, I can't thank you enough. Everything we do is for ya'll and there is nothing that compares to coming up in the stands after a big victory and seeing the joy on your faces.
Eagle Extras:
Favorite App: ESPN
Favorite TV Show: Californication
Favorite Movie: The Patriot
Most played song on your iPod: All my Lynyrd Skynyrd songs
Favorite food: Still momma's chicken n' biscuits
Who would you like to have dinner with? Bucky Wagner. He has to be one of the most influential people for Georgia Southern University.
Pre-game superstition: I have to take a shower before I get dressed.
What's your go-to dance move? I just drop it low and whatever happens after that is second nature.
If you weren't playing football, what sport would you compete in at the college level? Probably soccer
