STATESBORO, Ga. - Fans are encouraged to be in their seats early for a special National Championship Flag Ceremony that will take place at 5:30 p.m. prior to kickoff against Savannah St. on Saturday.
Members of the inaugural 1982 football team as well as representatives from the six national championship teams will be on hand to raise the six national championship flags in their new location at the Football Operations Center (FOC).
The flags, which previously flew on game days in the Northwest corner of the stadium next to the Bishop Fieldhouse, will be moved to the new FOC. Their move to the new location is to signify the new FBS era in Georgia Southern football and to give them a permanent home, where they will be proudly flown on a daily basis. The flags will be a part of newly opened Georgia Southern Football Hall of Fame, which is open to fans from 12-3 on Saturday.
The 2014 home opener kicks off at 6 p.m. and will be the first home game of the FBS and Sun Belt era and the opening game for the newly expanded Allen. E. Paulson Stadium. Promotions for the game include Paint the Town Blue, Military Appreciation Day, GATA Club reunion and Night of Champions. For more information on the game please visit http://goo.gl/Bu7Alw.
