Downtown Tailgate Pumps Up Fans, Community

STATESBORO, Ga. - The City of Statesboro and Georgia Southern Athletics partnered to help excite fans and the local community for Saturday's home opener against Savannah St. with the True Blue Tailgate.
The Tailgate was held at East Vine and Railroad Street and featured music, vendors, arts and crafts, the Georgia Southern cheerleaders, GUS and speakers Statesboro Mayor Jan Moore, President Dr. Brooks A. Keel, Head Coach Willie Fritz and Athletic Director Tom Kleinlein.
"I can't thank you all enough for showing your True Blue spirit tonight," President Brooks A. Keel said in his address to the crowd. "We expect everyone to be in Paulson Stadium on Saturday and to be there early because we have a lot of great things planned. We will be celebrating some of our previous traditions and setting some new traditions. We want you all to be there to help us do that."
The Tailgate was a part of a week-long celebration of the 2014 home football schedule and continues tomorrow with True Blue Eagle Eye Friday. GUS will travel Statesboro tomorrow to reward fans wearing Georgia Southern apparel on True Blue Friday.
The 2014 home football slate begins Saturday at 6 p.m. against Savannah St. Fans are encouraged to arrive at their seats early to see a special National Championship Flag Ceremony as well as the Golden Knights parachute in the game ball.
