Sophomore ran for season-best 151 yards and was responsible for two touchdowns
NEW ORLEANS – Georgia Southern sophomore quarterback Kevin Ellison earned his second Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor Monday, September 29th, after leading the Eagles to a 2-0 mark with a 34-14 win over Appalachian State Thursday night. The Eagles are in a tie for first place in the league and head to New Mexico State Saturday for Saturday's 8 p.m. Eastern Time game on ESPN3.
Ellison was responsible for two touchdowns, one rushing, one passing, and ran for a season-best 151 yards, rushing for his third 100-yard plus game in 2014. He averaged 7.2 rushing yards per play and his long run of 25 yards from midfield set up an efficient four-play drive and 17-point lead over the Mountaineers midway through the first half.
The Cornelia, Ga., native added a 6-10 performance passing in the victory, which included a 17-yard touchdown toss, his fourth of the year, to junior wide receiver B.J. Johnson. The Eagles rank at the top of the Sun Belt Conference statistical categories for scoring offense, total offense, rushing offense and passing efficiency.
