Former Eagle Placekicker Rob Bironas Passes Away

NFL veteran was part of Eagles’ 2000 national championship team
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Georgia Southern placekicker Rob Bironas, a member of the Eagles' 2000 National Championship team, passed away on Saturday, September 20th at the age of 36.
Bironas, a nine-year NFL veteran with the Tennessee Titans, began his career with Auburn and was a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award, presented to the nation's top collegiate placekicker, in 1998. He transferred to Georgia Southern for his senior season, joining his brother Blake, a four-year letterwinner on the Eagle soccer team, in Statesboro.
From Louisville, Ky., Bironas was inducted to the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2012 and named to the AFC Pro Bowl team in 2007. He kicked an NFL-record eight field goals to lift the Titans to a 38-36 win over Houston in 2007 and added two extra points in that game to set the NFL record for most points by a kicker with 26. He made a franchise-record 11 game-winning field goals and had a franchise single-season best four in 2006.
The family announced funeral arrangements on Monday. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 24th, from 5-8 p.m. in Nashville, Tenn,. at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home located at 660 Thompson Lane. The funeral services will be held at the same location Thursday, September 25th at 2:30 p.m.
