Throwback Thursday -- Dark Blue Jerseys Define Early Football Teams

Eagles wear home jerseys to play Georgia Tech this weekend
Georgia Southern will wear its traditional blue jerseys Saturday against Georgia Tech, the first time doing so since the 2011 opener against Samford. While the school colors changed occasionally in the early years of the institution, dark blue emerged as the main jersey color for the first football teams.
Last year's throwback jerseys paid homage to the "Blue Tide" teams from 1924-41 that included horizontal stripes on the dark blue uniform. Earlier renditions of the jersey were plain dark blue after the sport of football, now "more than a campus game," was approved as a team in 1909. Mentions in articles refer to Homecoming games on Thanksgiving Day and the team proudly wearing its dark blue jerseys.
"The Southern Century," Centennial book by Dr. Del Presley includes images of the teams that represented the First District Agricultural & Mechanical School , or "'Culture," through name changes, successes and to its eventual suspension with the start of World War I.
