STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern athletics announced the winners of the Paint the Town Blue True Blue Spirit Business Competition Contest and recognized them on the field in the fourth quarter of the Eagles' football game against Savannah State last Saturday.
Vision Source: Professional Eye Care won Most Spirited, Queensborough National Bank won Most Creative and Averitt Center for the Arts won Best Window Display. The winners receive four tickets per business to the Georgia Southern football game against ULM game at Paulson Stadium Nov. 29, at 6 p.m.
The Paint the Town Blue True Blue Spirit Business Competition was the culmination of a number events during the week leading up to the game against Savannah State. Paint the Town Blue was designed to get all of Statesboro involved in the celebration of the beginning of the 2014 football season and for local businesses to show their support for Georgia Southern University.
"We are extremely grateful for the partnership with the Statesboro Visitors Bureau," said Gleen Hart, Georgia Southern's associate athletics director for external affairs. "It was truly a great week, and we look forward to it being even bigger and better next year. The spirit shown by Eagle Nation during Paint the Town Blue Week was outstanding."
Businesses in the Statesboro Community began decorating their store fronts a week before the game and there was a Kickoff Balloon Launch conducted by the students at Julia P. Bryant Elementary School and a True Blue Block Party on the Georgia Southern campus last Wednesday. A True Blue Tailgate took place in downtown Statesboro last Thursday and GUS was out traveling around town Friday giving away prizes to fans wearing their Truest and Bluest Georgia Southern gear.
