Fritz Speaks to Greater Savannah Alumni Network Luncheon Wednesday

Eagle fans and alumni get preview of 2014 season

SAVANNAH, Ga. – More than 100 Eagle fans and alumni packed the Johnny Harris Banquet facility in Savannah Wednesday afternoon for a chance to listen to Head Football Coach Willie Fritz provide a preview of the 2014 Georgia Southern Football season. Fritz spoke about the commitment from the University, from Georgia Southern students and from Eagle Nation as the program accepted the invitation to join the Sun Belt Conference a little over a year ago.
As he stood before the crowd at today's event, he noted that one of the reasons he decided to take the Georgia Southern head coaching position was because of the passionate, and knowledgeable Eagle fans. Fritz, who begins his 22nd year as a collegiate head football coach, will lead the Eagles into their first season in the FBS and in the new league. Georgia Southern kicks off the season at N.C. State on Saturday, August 30th with its first home game in the newly expanded Paulson Stadium vs. Savannah State on Saturday, September 6th.
Alumni and friends in the Savannah area gather regularly at the Johnny Harris banquet facility to hear from University guests, coaches and Eagle Athletics Administration. The world-famous barbeque, sweet tea and fellowship is always a draw, but the Fritz provided those gathered with information on how the Eagle squad developed during the preseason and his thoughts on the upcoming year.
The audience peppered Coach Fritz with questions ranging from the Eagles' pre-game plans and the amenities in the new facility to the qualities of his team leaders and recruiting.
