STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Head Coach Willie Fritz made adjustments to practice today and tomorrow as he gets his team ready for its final scrimmage of the preseason on Saturday. The Eagles finished practice number 17 Thursday morning and will have a lighter session Friday in preparation for preseason camp.
"We had a good practice this morning," said Head Coach Willie Fritz. "The guys did a good job of getting after it. It starts getting a little monotonous when you have all these practices in the preseason camp, but I thought we got a lot out of it and we're going to finish up with the scrimmage on Saturday and then we start working on N.C. State beginning on Monday."
Fritz noted that the Eagles will have a shorter practice on Friday morning and dress in helmets and shorts. He planned practice with less contact and running, but with enough time to go over items that are very important heading into Saturday's scrimmage.
"We are going to focus on our scrimmage," Fritz said. "But when it's over, we are going to be able to interact with our fans. We have unbelievable support. It's a great event for our players."
One of the biggest changes took place Thursday as the Eagles were able to lift in the Football Operations Center for the first time since the program took up residence in the building at the end of July. Nearly $500,000 worth of equipment was ordered for the new strength and conditioning area with much of it delivered and installed over the course of the last 10 days.
"It's the most excited I've ever seen a group of football players about lifting weights during camp," Fritz said. "They were pumped up about getting in there."
FOOTBALL OPERATIONS CENTER RIBBON CUTTING AND TOURS
Eagle fans will be able to tour the new Football Operations Center, including seeing the the new locker room and other facility highlights on Saturday, August 16th following the official ribbon cutting. Georgia Southern University President Brooks Keel and Director of Athletics Tom Kleinlein invite Eagle Nation to the ribbon cutting at 9 a.m. and to tour the building prior to the final scrimmage of preseason camp.
