Georgia Southern exceeds benchmark figures for multi- and single-year scores
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Georgia Southern's Football program earned its highest ever Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores for both the multi-year and single-season timeframes, posting a 958 multi-year score and 972 single-year score. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) today released APR scores for the most recent reporting periods through the 2012-13 academic year for all college and university athletics programs.
The Eagle Football program has recorded multi-year and single-year APR scores above the NCAA-mandated benchmark of 930 in each of the last two years. The previous two reporting periods required a 925 score with Georgia Southern posting four-straight years of single-year APR scores above that mark. The maximum score for either the multi-year or single-year is 1000.
"Ensuring that our student-athletes succeed academically is our number-one goal," said Georgia Southern Director of Athletics Tom Kleinlein. "The APR scores for our football program indicate that we are achieving and exceeding the benchmarks, not only those mandated by the NCAA, but by our own standards as well."
Single-year APR data covers the 2012-13 academic year only and is calculated by dividing the number of points earned by single sports student-athletes by the number of points possible and then multiplying by 1000 for the team's single-season APR. The multi-year score is an average of the previous APR scores from the past four academic years: 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13.
While not directly reported as a part of APR scores, grade point averages are another measurable indicator of academic success. This most recent NCAA multi-year APR reporting period includes the 2011-12 and 2012-13 academic years when the Eagle Football posted its top two team grade point averages in program history.
