STATESBORO, Ga.- The Statesboro Main Street Farmer's Market hosted Georgia Southern Day today, April 26th. Complete with live music, games, and crafts, the Statesboro Farmer's Market provides fresh and local vegetables, fruits, meats, and other goods to Statesboro citizens each Saturday morning. Farmers and businesses from all over southeast Georgia gather to showcase the freshest and most delicious local products. Today, Georgia Southern came together in downtown Statesboro and celebrated with President Brooks Keel and first lady Tammie Schalue.
Many different booths were operated by GSU faculty and students. Eagle Dining Services provided live cooking demonstrations using ingredients from the Farmer's Market for patrons to taste. Georgia Southern cheerleaders and mascot Gus were available for fans to take pictures with. Freedom, GSU's bald eagle from The Center for Wildlife Education, was there as well. GSU art students showcased their work, alongside local artists. 'Keep Bulloch Beautiful' was also there, an organization whose purpose is to reduce waste, prevent litter, and beautify Bulloch County by giving residents the information, tools, and support they need to accomplish these things. Volunteers were picking up trash in downtown Statesboro in an effort to spread the word about the organization's great cause.
Georgia Southern student-athletes participated in supporting this great effort to make Bulloch County a cleaner, healthier place to live, work, study, and enjoy.
