Since becoming Georgia Southern's Football Coach at the beginning of January, there's hardly been a minute for Willie Fritz to stand still. He did make time recently to answer both football and non-football questions to share with Eagle Nation on GSEagles.com.
Through the search process, and now after being immersed for several weeks in Georgia Southern, what one word would you use to describe the University?

How do you apply your past experiences to the job here at Georgia Southern?
This will be my fourth program that I've taken over, and I have refined how I approach things at each place.
When did you know that coaching was the career you wanted to pursue?
High School
What individuals have influenced your career?
Coach Ron Randleman, Coach Bob Riley and Coach Dick Foster
What advice would you give to individuals interested in pursuing a career in coaching?
You have to have a passion for coaching as a career, that's the first part. Then, I recommend that you get certified to be able to teach and coach high school.
What are the most important attributes of a successful team?
Toughness and Work Ethic
What is the biggest challenge for today's student-athletes?
Time Management
What is your favorite sports memory?
Winning two NJCAA National Championships at Blinn (Texas) Junior College
Who is the greatest athlete you have ever seen compete in person?
Steve McNair while he was at Alcorn State

Coach Fritz and the Eagle Football team begin their first year as a member of the Football Bowl Subdivision and the Sun Belt Conference this fall, kicking off against N.C. State on August 30th in Raleigh. Georgia Southern opens the 2014 home season vs. Savannah State at an expanded Paulson Stadium on September 6th.
