JDL Fast Track Meet Information -- Rolling Schedule
STATESBORO, Ga. – Winter storm Pax, which showed its might with a wintry mix in Georgia and heavy snowfall in North Carolina, caused race officials at the JDL Fast Track change the schedule for this weekend's meet. Previously scheduled as a two-day meet, the JDL Fast Track will go to a single-day schedule Saturday, February 15th, with events rolling beginning at 9 a.m. with the women's 60m Hurdles.
Eighteen Eagles will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., and will compete against a yet undetermined number of teams as several local teams may decide to compete closer to home. Georgia Southern leaves this afternoon after limited practice this week.
"We had to keep our team mentally engaged in our goals and we've kept everyone informed of the situation as we learned more from meet officials," said Head Track and Field Coach Marlo Mincey. "We're not the only team that is dealing with weather-related issues, and we know that some schools have it much worse."
Coach Mincey will make minor alterations to the lineup for Saturday's meet in conjunction with events that may have been removed from the schedule as it was reduced to a single day of competition.
"This is a meet where we can excel," Mincey said. "Some teams may not be able to make it, but a few other local ACC teams Duke, North Carolina and Virginia Tech will stay and participate in this meet. That adds more competition than we had expected and it helps us because we want to compete and do our best against programs of that caliber."
Georgia Southern's trip to the JDL Fast Track is the first of two it will make in the next three weeks as the team previews the venue for the Southern Conference Championships March 1st-2nd. This is the final meet for the Eagles before the championships.
"We have a few women who will get some additional experience this weekend who haven't been race a lot this year," Mincey said. "We want to get everyone into race mode and if we weren't able to compete in this meet, we would have had some Eagles who would be heading into the championships competing for the first time in some of their events."
