First-team All-Sun Belt Conference pick has led Eagles in tackles two straight years
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Georgia Southern senior linebacker Edwin Jackson has been selected to play in the Medal of Honor Bowl at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 10th at Johnson Hagood Stadium in Charleston, S.C. The Medal of Honor Bowl, in its second year, is an all-star college senior football game featuring some of the nation's top draft eligible college football players. The game is so named to celebrate the brave men and women of our nation's military. Jackson will play for either of two legendary coaches Willie Jeffries for the American team or Chan Gailey for the National team. The Atlanta, Ga., native reports to camp on January 4th with practice beginning the next day.
"It is an honor and privilege for me as part of the Medal of Honor Bowl to help raise awareness for Wounded Warriors and for the men and women who protect our nation," said Edwin Jackson, from Atlanta, Georgia, and Westlake High School. "I'm so proud to represent our military personnel, my school, Georgia Southern, and my family in this special game. This is something I've been dreaming about since I was a little kid, something I've been working for, and I'm excited about taking in the whole experience."
Jackson, who was named Sun Belt Conference first team defense and earned additional postseason first team All-Conference honors from national media outlets, has led the Eagles in tackles in each of the last two years. Jackson was a leader and key contributor to the league's best defense with 8.3 tackles per game with his first career interception in Georgia Southern's first Sun Belt game. He was a candidate for the 2014 Burlsworth Award recognizing the nation's best football player who started his career as a walk-on. Jackson was also nominated for the 2014 Wuerffel Trophy as a student-athlete who best exemplifies community service with athletic and academic achievement and was nominated for the AFCA Good Works Team for his dedication in planning and holding clinics to teach children about American Football in Costa Rica.
Tickets for the game are available for purchase online at mohbowl.com/tickets with premium chair seats at $40 each and standard chair seats at $30 each. General admission tickets are $20 for the west side of the stadium and $15 for the east side.
