My mother. She always is there for me—good & bad; think & thin
Atlanta, GA is where Tre' Griffin calls home. He comes to Georgia Southern from North Cobb High School. He is a Junior majoring in Communications. As a member of the GSU football team, Tre' has learned to balance the demands of being a student and an athlete. He does both very successfully. When Tre' graduates from Georgia Southern with his degree, he hopes to pursue a career in broadcasting. Taking the things Tre' learned in his college journey as a student athlete, we are sure he will be successful in life.

What is the best way for you to balance your academic and athletic lifestyle?Atalia Ramirez
I was fortunate to have my practices in the morning because it gives me the rest of the day to hang out in Cone Hall and focus on my school work.
Why did you choose Georgia Southern University to further your education?
I love it here and love my team. I can't imagine having the influence and support that Georgia Southern University has given me anywhere else.
What are your Career aspirations?
When I graduate from Georgia Southern I want to join the Peace Corps. After that I want to be a teacher and do missionary work in South Africa
When it comes to striving to do your best in the classroom, who is the biggest motivator in your life?
My coaches because they believed in me after last year when I was on the verge of ineligibility and because of that I have dedicated my free time to improving my school work.
Atalia Ramirez came to Georgia Southern University from Warner Robins, GA. She attended First Presbyterian Day School in Macon, GA. As a sophomore on the Women's Soccer Team, she is majoring in International Studies. After a bit of a rocky beginning, Atalia has taken those bumps in the road and learned from them to become a student-athlete who is very focused on succeeding not only on the Soccer field but in the classroom as well. Atalia would like to use her International Studies degree in the future by joining the Peace Corps and later on becoming a teacher and doing missionary work in South Africa. Where ever Atalia goes from here we are sure she will make a positive impact on those she comes in contact with just as she has us here at Georgia Southern University.

What is the best way for you to balance your academic and athletic lifestyle?
The best way for me to balance my schedule is to write everything down on my calendar in my room.
Why did you choose Georgia Southern University to further your education?
I chose Georgia Southern because of the great traditions and I also had a few family members attend and graduate from here.
What are your career aspirations?
I am a Senior majoring in Psychology. I plan on using my degree to become a high school counselor in the future.
When it comes to striving to do your best in the classroom, who is the biggest motivator in your life?
When it comes to being my biggest motivator and inspiration I would have to say in Cone Hall, Ms. Angie. Outside of Cone Hall, I would say my parents and my girlfriend. Each one of these people plays a very important role in my success in the classroom and on the field.
Nick Wright is an Atlanta, GA native, who comes to Georgia Southern University from MLK High School in Lithonia, GA. He plays Corner Back for the GSU Football team. Being a Senior, Nick has learned how to not only balance academics and athletics; he has learned to do both well. Nick is majoring in Psychology which he plans on taking this degree and becoming a high school counselor after he graduates. With the lessons Nick has learned both on and off the field during his college journey, Nick will be such an inspiration to many high school students.

Jakayvea Akins
Jakayvea Akins freshman, Pre-Sport Management major, a part of the Women's Basketball team has been chosen as this month's Talon-Ted Award winner. She has started this academic school year with a strong work ethic and organization that has shown great results in the classroom. She has displayed a commitment to achieving academic excellence, which has not gone unnoticed by Student-Athlete Services staff members, coaches, and teammates. She has a tough academic load this semester, which includes math and social science courses, but she has been an active participant in her learning process. She has developed a positive, working relationship with Mrs. Tedders, Learning Specialist, which we encourage in Student-Athlete Services. She has exemplified the definition of a Georgia Southern student-athlete.
