STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern Track & Field team heads north this weekend for the Niswonger Invitational at the David E. Walker Track at Gentry Field at East Tennessee State. One of the largest indoor meets in the nation, two-day invitational begins with 60m Hurdle preliminaries at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 17th. The full meet schedule is located here with live results posted here at timinginc.com. Heat sheets for the meet will be released later today and will be made available online.
"We want to build off previous weeks, compete hard, correct mistakes we have made, continue to get sharper and find our rhythm," said Head Track and Field Coach Marlo Mincey. "We'll race down some people and other individuals will race up this weekend. I'm excited about the progress we have made from last week."
Twenty-five Eagles will travel to Johnson City, Tenn., with plans to participate in nearly the full slate of events as they look to make improvements from the 2014 opener last week at the UAB Blazer Invitational. Seven Eagles set personal bests at this meet a year ago.
Ten personal bests were set at the Birmingham Crossplex as Georgia Southern faced competition from the Southeastern Conference, the Atlantic Coast Conference and from several individual national qualifiers. Graduate student Sherril McFarlane set Georgia Southern's 800m record with a time of 2:13.06 at the UAB Blazer Invitational last Saturday. She will compete in both the 800m Run and the Mile Run this weekend.
