PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Georgia Southern received an additional 189 points today in the first regular season Sports Network poll for 10th place. Four of the eight FCS teams that defeated FBS programs last weekend were ranked in the new Sports Network top 10 with Towson and Northern Iowa moving up. North Dakota State remained in the number one spot with teams ranked second, third and fourth all changing positions.
The Eagles opened their 2013 season with the top scoring output in the nation and top rushing effort in Division I on Saturday with a 77-9 win over Savannah State. Georgia Southern finished the 2012 season with number-three rankings in both polls. In its first year transitioning to FBS, Georgia Southern will be considered for weekly rankings and honors from the Sports Network, but is not eligible to be ranked in the weekly national coaches' poll.
