Final Practice in the Books for Georgia Southern Football

STATESBORO, Ga. – Over. Done. Complete. Finished. Georgia Southern Football team put its 15th practice of 2013 in the books Thursday afternoon, with the final 17 periods signaling the end of spring ball. Special teams work and position drills covered the first half of the full-pads practice with group option and interaction with the first and second units completed the day. Coach Monken called up the team, recognized those Eagles who had made it through every practice this spring, and then the rising seniors broke the huddle.
Georgia Southern Football is defined by toughness, humility and effort, and while the team was impacted by a significant number of injuries, the expectations are still the same, and those expectations are very high. Coach Monken pushes his team to practice and play with unrelenting effort and conviction, with the blue-collar work ethic that is as much a part of the program as the uniform. The expectations for the last day of practice were not any different.
Just because practices are over, however, doesn't mean the work is finished and as Coach Monken reminds the Eagles, there's always room for improvement. While the team work on the practice field is done, commitment to the team continues. Classwork and strength and conditioning are scheduled through the end of the semester with summer classes beginning shortly thereafter. August 1st, the start of preseason 2013 on the gnatty banks of "Beautiful Eagle Creek" will be here soon enough with the home opener vs. Savannah State at 6 p.m. on August 31st.
Georgia Southern Athletics provides up-to-date information on all its sports through its official website, GSEagles.com, through social media channels facebook.com/GSAthletics and twitter.com/GSAthletics, and its "Eagles GATA" mobile app for Android and iOS.
