STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Director of Athletics Tom Kleinlein and University President Brooks Keel addressed members of the media today, Tuesday, December 24th, at Bishop Field House as their search for the next leader of the Eagle Football program commences. Jeff Monken, who guided the Eagles over the past four years, was announced as the new coach at the United States Military Academy Tuesday morning.
"On behalf of Georgia Southern University, I want to thank Jeff for his years of service," said Georgia Southern Athletics Director Tom Kleinlein. "Under his leadership, our storied football program was put back on track, and he helped spearhead our transition to FBS."
No specific timeline has been assigned to the hiring process.
"The search for Jeff's successor has already begun," Kleinlein said. "Georgia Southern University has made a tremendous commitment to its football program as demonstrated by our move to FBS as well as the additions to Paulson Stadium and the construction of a state-of-the-art football operations center. I will work hard in the coming days to find the best fit for Georgia Southern University, and I am confident we will find a coach who will lead our program with class, integrity, sportsmanship and a commitment to our student-athletes."
No further comment will be made until the announcement of the new head coach.
