Associated Press honors Frye; Sports Network Selects Byrd
STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern offensive linemen Garrett Frye and Dorian Byrd were named today to All-America teams by the Associated Press and The Sports Network. Frye, a junior offensive tackle, was selected to the 2013 Associated Press All-America second team. Bryd was selected as a member of the third team offense by The Sports Network.
Frye, from Cumming, Ga., has started the last 25-consecutive games for the Eagles and saw action at both left and right tackle this season. A four-year starter from Macon, Ga., Byrd was credited for 12 knockdowns against Florida's 15th-ranked rushing defense last month.
The Eagles lead the nation in team rushing average at 360.4 yards per game and recorded three games with 500 or more yards total offense. Georgia Southern's 576 rushing yards in the season opener ranks as the top single-game total for both NCAA Division I FBS and FCS in 2013. In the season finale, a victory over the Gators in "The Swamp," the Eagles ran for 429 yards, the fourth-highest rushing total ever posted by a Florida opponent.
Frye was named to the College Sports Madness All-America team earlier this month and was an Associated Press and Sports Network selection third team selection in 2012.
