Frye Selected to CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District Football Team

Junior exercise science major owns 3.71 grade point average
STATESBORO, Ga. -- Georgia Southern offensive tackle Garrett Frye today was named to the CoSIDA/Capital One Division I Football Academic All-District Football team. As a member of the academic all-district first team, he advances to the national ballot for national Academic All-America team honors with voting to begin next week. Selected by the by the College Sports Information Directors of America, the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
An exercise science major, Frye possesses a 3.71 grade point average and is in his junior year both academically and as a member of the Georgia Southern Football team. From Cumming, Ga., Frye has started in every game in the last two years, helping the Eagles to their ninth NCAA Division I rushing title in 2012 and to the NCAA Division I-best rushing average this season. Frye was a preseason All-America selection and earned third-team All-America honors from the Associated Press and The Sports Network following the 2012 season.
Previous Georgia Southern Football Academic All-Americans include Voncellies Allen, Rob Stockton and Edward Thomas. Allen was a defensive tackle for the Eagles from 1997-1999 and earned Academic second team honors in 1998 and first-team accolades in 1999. A defensive back on Georgia Southern's mid-1990s teams, Rob Stockton was a first-team Academic All-American in 1995. That same year, linebacker Edward Thomas was a second-team pick.
